Power Rangers

Power Rangers

Dear Friends,

Today I am here to talk about one of my oldest obsessions, that I’ve never been able to let go of, in almost 30 years. Power Rangers! If you’re a kid from the 90’s do I need to say more? Hell, I know kids today are into it as well. I am no longer a kid, why am I still into a thing aimed at kids? Well my friends today you are going to find out.

Let's paint the scene; you’re a kid from the 90s and this awesome show comes on tv, that has flashing lights, fighting, explosions, what else could you ask for? Turns out nothing really, because it’s still going to this day. Unless you have little kids, you probably don’t know it’s still going today, and going to all different kinds of areas. Which is why till this day me and my brother are still fans, but I bet you’re thinking why?

I'm not one to ignore the fact nostalgia plays a huge impact on what we still like. We liked it as a kid, so we carry on liking a thing. However, with this particular subject there are thousands of people, maybe millions who still love this series of shows into adulthood. Why do I? Because their marketing team is genius. One thing is they keep going back to the original series, and releasing a bunch of collectables (we don't call them toys as adults) that are high quality, and look good on a shelf. From morphers, megazords, weapons and helmets. Everything they release just adds up to a small fortune, if you really want to go down that route. I would, but where would I put it all? I think about that more than the cost. Funny isn’t it.

Then there’s things like the comics, which have taken the original story, and added a lot more detail to the characters and story. Which of course is a complaint that a lot of us have about the original show, when you watch it with a developed brain. A lot of flash, very little substance. Which is why  understand, but that's why the comics are perfect for fans like me. Seeing as there are just so many of them, there is enough to keep people entertained.

Of course one of the things I also consider with the fandom, is the fandom. There are so many YouTube videos that look at the show, trying to explain the mythology, and looking at the overall story of all the different series. While there is a Modder community that helps to make toys look show accurate. Then people who make handmade replicas. Then there are the conventions, and ComiCon appearances. It is a whole thing. Which is why I feel good about being a part of it.

The only part of this fandom where I feel it is a little bit lacking, is the video game department. Which kinda sucks, as I still admire the games from the good old days. They might not be perfect, but they have the spirit of the show apart. It's just a shame the modern ones are a little bit different, and don't feel the same in my opinion, but that’s just me.  Same with a movie, we had a few and they are fine. But I feel like we need to do our own thing, and try to make it a success. Or Try an animated movie, and see if we have any success there.

Whenever I see an announcement that has something to do with Power Rangers it’s brought to my attention. Which is something I don’t do for a lot of things. A lot of things are stuff I’ve been into for a period in my life and moved on. However, with this, it's something from the beginning, to now and try to keep updated about. It isn’t a passing fancy. It is truly something I STAN.
