Money Money Money

Money Money Money

Dear friends,

Today I am talking about something Brits are apparently too afraid to talk about money. People see it a vulgar, and not sophisticated to talk about such things. I say fuck that noise! If we don’t talk about things how do we know what people think, or what understand different points of view. I think today I might upset some people, but if I do it’s worth it, because it’s worth it to help people understand different kinds of people. While also not turning up your noses of people’s way of living, and the way there were brought up.

I’ve been wanting to write this for a long time, for a while I was wondering how do I go about it. I am currently looking at different career prospects it has made me think about the thing, “we are salves to till we die”, money. Mostly what people think is a decently paid job, or why I constantly get told there’s not money in it. I don’t know why people feel they need to project their feelings of what they earn on to me.

As many of you know, I am not from a rich family. I have never been well of or comfortable. It has always been living hand to mouth. Saving up for Christmas gifts, or not getting a birthday gift on my birthday. Sometime I’ve had to wait till Christmas so I can get a birthday gift, because new school clothes were more important. As I child this is a hard thing to get you head around, but as an adult I can understand the single parent struggle. I can also understand when I was really young, why my mum used to make it seem fun when we had Ready Break for dinner. This is all gotten me to a point where I feel humbled by money, why I don’t like to waste it.

I remember when these things would happen to me when I was younger, and I thought when I am an adult I will get a job where I have enough money to get my kids toys on the birthday. Well one of those hasn’t happened yet, but I still have been able to get my kids gifts for their birthday.

It has come to my attention a lot of people seem to think earning a certain amount of money isn’t well paid. I’m going to getting a bit controversial here. I think sometimes it comes to people’s race and social standing. A few people I know have always had money, and they feel anything below what they are used too is not enough. When I have spoken to some of my friends who have come from similar backgrounds of mine, and happen to be of a similar ethnicity, they feel the same as I do. I feel they get idea from our parents were all living job to job, payday to payday, and if we get anything more than what they got, we’ll feel it is a success.

Now it’s time I throw some numbers at you, I personally think any job I can do and get paid over £21,000 is well paying job. I think this because of a few reasons, one it’s when I can start paying back my student loan. Two, it’s a threshold I’ve never passed. Three, it’s 6K more than I am currently getting. A lot of the people I have asked would think it is a very low number. Even the UK average is a lot higher at 30K, but to me that is a big load of money.

Just so we can get a gage where a lot of people heads are at, a couple said 18-21 is good. A few said anywhere over 30k is a good region; I’ve had a few people say 35 is a good number for them. I’ve had even a few people say 45-50 is what is needed. Now I am not saying any of these numbers are wrong, but to me it has been very eye opening. The thing I think they made me aware of is a lot of my friends must think I am extremely underpaid. Which to some degree I am, but I make more than enough for me to live, have a good time and sustain myself I lived alone. If I was to make a lot more than what I was now, there could be a lot of life style changes, but I like to think I still be the same.

I have seen maybe some people care about the more money they get, so they can have a happier lifestyle. That maybe include; spending a decent amount on food for the week, but also having more money to spending on the leisure time is more important. My thinking is, no matter how much money I get I can always make it work for me. Maybe because I don’t have such extravagant plans as other people, and given the fact I really want to live a simple life at the moment. It does beg the question, if I were to get more money would I want to continually get more, so I can do more? Sadly I don’t know the answer to that till it happens.

I just wanted to make sure everyone realises the amount of money you make is relative. Just because you make more than someone else, or they make more than you doesn’t mean they are better off than you. Some people get a lot of money and live a rich extravagant life style, while others stick to their regular routine. While some of us just want to make a little more than what I parents did, just to show we learned and appreciate the sacrifice. Whatever you consider a lot or a little just remember there is someone worst off than you.
