Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my adventures in travel, style, and food. Hope you have a nice stay!

Cookies

Whenever I watched American tv shows, I would always see them baking chocolate chip cookies. They always made it seem look so easy. However, when I went about making them it was so easy. I went around looking for many different recipes. I once even asked a professional baker once, and they couldn’t give a decent recipe. Till eventually I found a decent recipe and find the trick to get it right.

Ingredients

225g Butter

210g Light Brown Sugar

170g Caster Sugar

355g Plain Flour

1½ Teaspoon Salt

1 Teaspoon Baking Soda

2 Large Eggs

2 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract

340g Chocolate Chunks

Method

In a bowl take flour, salt, and baking soda and sieve them into a bowl.

In a separate bowl melt your butter. Once again you can do this with 30 second bursts in the microwave, or in a bowl over boiling water. Once the butter has melted stir in your sugars. Use a whisk to get the sugar into the better. it should look like caramel.

After you have done this, scape down the bowl to make sure you get the butter and sugar into your mixture. Then take one egg and whisk it through it, breaking up the egg into the mixture. Then scrap down the bowl again and then repeat with your second egg. Then add your vanilla to the mix.

Once you have nice looking wet mixture, its time to add in the dry ingredients. Make sure you add this slowly, as you don’t want to create a dust cloud and loose too much flour. Fold the flour into the sugar mixture.

Add in the chocolate chips. If your mixture looks a little oily and wet, this is okay. As next we are going to chill the dough. Cover you bowl with cling film and leave in the fridge for at least an hour. I would recommend you leave in there as long as you can, to make sure it firms up.

After an hour or so take your dough, and now it should be nice and firm. If you think it’s a little too stick still, just a little flour to make it a little less sticky.

When you are ready to bake your cookie heat your oven to 190°C. then line your baking sheet with baking paper. A pro tip, if you only have one baking sheet, cut your baking paper several times to the size of sheet. When the batch is done, just switch out the paper.

Now you want to roll out cookie into balls. When I do this, I weigh them to make sure each cookie is the same weight. Depending on what size cookies you want the more you make. I tend to go for about 50g a cookie. Also make sure you go about five cookies a sheet, carefully spread out. When they bake your cookies will spread.

Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the edges are set and the cookie is beginning to turn golden brown.

After you have baked your cookies leave them to cool on baker paper on a wire rack. This will make them easy to remove them from the paper.

After following this recipe, hopefully you will have a lovely load of cookies for you to share at work, or your next even. Of course, you can change what kind of cookies you make. You can switch it up and make white and milk chocolate chips. You could use M&M’s if you want to. Whatever you use let me know, with a comment below. I’ll see you next time with something I planned for Easter.
