Boy Bands

Boy Bands

Sometimes when I plan these things, I just happen to do plan things when the timing is right. Boybands, I love them. I have done for a very long time. Growing up in the 90’s they were everywhere. You couldn’t listen to music, or turn on the tv without knowing who some of them are. I of course, knew many, loved many and just kept on liking them in secrect. Why? Becuase they weren’t for me. They were for girls, and I was meant to like girl groups. Of course I did, but of for obvious reasons they never hit the way they did, for some people.

Lets get the obvious out of the way, yes I was a young child who didn’t understand why, he had enjoyed watching other hot guys dance around. Of course, now I do, and you do too. It’s obvious now, but back then it was so much. I mean, why would I be more interested in objectively attractive young men, half naked? I do know. Why would that appeal to me, more than the opposite? I mean its just a wild idea, isn’t it? However, in adult life I can say now, its not that big of a deal. As I’ve know so many people who are just like me. While some of the groups have been to consider to, having “the gay one”. Things kind just worked out.

I don’t only like boybands because is a group of hot guys. I mean that’s only a fraction of it. The another part of it is, of course is the talent. I know people like to rag on popular artists, claiming they have no talent. I like to think these people are just jealous, or just like being a hater. Honestly, though you got to have a little a bit of talent, or a special something to make it. Which why I love the singing and a dancing. Which is a talent in itself, if you can do both at the same time. While at the same time, I like to think they enjoy entertaining. For me the whole package is what appeals to me. Now that I do poetry analysis for a living, I love looking at the lyrics of the song and seeing actully these aren’t too bad. They are catchy songs, they have a meaning to them (usually), and they are mostly up beat. I know of course know they are written in a way that the person listening to them, could inserting themselves as the subject. Which is why, I now really truly understand why some people could truly lose their minds.

As you can guess I didn’t really grow out of my love of boybands. Which even though there has been a decline in them since the mid 00’s. However, there have been a few that popped up, and one of them I happened to come across them, when I had adult money. While also studying music, at university. I don’t remember how I found them, but I did. Then I did some things that are truly STAN worthy. Such as buying the single, the album, and the tv show. Why? I can’t tell you. Maybe because I am nuts, but if you knew me from 2010-2013 and ever visited my room, you would be like, this guys is weird. I still am thank you very much! I think a lot of my flatmates thought I was doing this to be ironic or something. When I was just doing it, because I liked it. It was the first time I could enjoy a boyband since I was now out, and I didn’t care what people though about me. It was truly freeing. Which then didn’t stop my love for boybands.

Shortly after my previous dance with bands, I was able to find a whole untapped market. K-pop! When I started my deeper dive into it, I found out over there, there was a ton of boybands, and new ones making their debuts every year! Which is what made me fall in love with K-pop. It was a like I was going back in time, and seeing groups of boys and girls, singing, dance and have truly awesome music videos. Over the course of time, some of the bands I liked have disbanded. Sad of course, but there music will always live on within me. When I am recommend a new band, I do not hesitate to check them out, as they could be my new favourite.

Now it brings me to the now, with all this boyband revival of yesteryear. As time of writing, Nsync are doing promos for Trolls and making new songs, maybe? Which is making people loose there minds. Hoping for tours, and other magic; to use our adult money on things. This sounds familiar. Just like BTR also reunited, and released a new album this year. Which of course I love, and thinking, do I order the CD or the vinyl? Which I kind love, as we’re adults now, and we can enjoy what we enjoy.

As part of this STAN I thought about how I would make a playlist to go along with this. Which has gone through some the groups I liked for different reasons. The songs, the videos or the guys themselves. Some of them you might know, some of them you might not. The link to the playlist is below, save it to your Spotify, or watch there music videos and enjoy things of our past and maybe your future. Bonus points if you remember some of the lyrics from some of the more popular songs!

I can truly say I am proud to say I enjoy my boybands now. I can say honestly and freely, and not working about what people might think of me. I don’t know whats going to happen, but I am going to keep my eyes peeled and see what is announced. I most likely will continue to grow with K-pop bands, but the only classic bands might find a way to part with my money. As for now, am going listen to EXO’s new album.
