Bluey
If you have any children under the age of 10, and haven't been living under a rock; then you will know of the TV show taking over TV screens, Bluey. Or if you’re like most parents, you are watching the show more than your kids. The question is, why is that?
Bluey revolves around Bluey Heller and her sister Bingo, and the playful high jinks the pair get up to. Which include a lot of games that involve imagination, discovery and hard of hearing grannies. Unlike most kids tv shows, the Parents are right in there playing along with them. Bandit and Chili are the parents, and just roll on with the hijinks. Both enjoy spending time with their kids, they understand what certain games are; most importantly, are never too busy to join in on the fun.
The thing with Bluey, it's become this cultural phenomenon. However, what is odd about it is, it's mostly the parents and adults that are attaching themselves to this show. Whether it's the Jonas Brothers playing a theme at their concert, or a half time show having the crowd shouting of the names, as a marching band plays the theme song. it's one of those things if you don’t get it, just watch an episode and you’ll get it.
Unlike most kids, shows that parents find insufferable, to watch over and over again. Bluey has multiple levels to its 7 minute episodes. With jokes aimed at the kids, and one aimed at the adults. Like Bandit saying, “I’m not taking advice from a cartoon dog” referencing parents taking que from his own parenting style. While some episodes deal with such big topics, which are guaranteed to over kids' heads. Like Aunt Brandy not being able to have the thing she really wants, and that being hard for her to be around her nieces. Or even when Chilli recounts how she felt Bluey was falling behind with her milestones. Then we got a first person view of Chill, being told, “she is doing great!” That’s for all those doubting parents out there.
Unlike most things there is not much to criticise in this show. Which is odd, because it just works, and is a kid show. When normally adults would bore it far sooner than the kids. The only thing would be the episodes are too short, until the Sign which was the longest episode to date. Or maybe not having enough episodes. While certain criticisms about the show regarding representation have been addressed by the creators of the show. Such as, depiction of inter-breeding families (they are dogs after all). While also having same sex couples, soon to be a thing.
Overall, Bluey is a show for the whole family. If you’ve never seen it, check out an episode, available on iPlayer and Disney+. There's a reason why it was revealed to be the most watched program on Disney Plus. If you’re thinking, well I don't have young kids why should l watch it? Well, it will help you remember the younger days of when you used to play with your imagination. While if you’re like me, having something to talk about with the young kids in your life. Or even friends who have younger kids in theirs. Or maybe even learn some life lessons. I am just thankful the Healers are here to stay.
