Scary Movies

Scary Movies

“What's your favourite scary movie?” Ghostface

With Halloween here I have been thinking about the scary season that is on us. Normally I don’t do anything for the event its itself. More recently I have gotten into the habit of a watching a couple scary movies. Which is a big deal, as once I used to never be a fan of horror. I used to class myself as a “Chicken”, now I have gotten into the horror movie genre and see if it can scare me.

With the idea of being scared what are my favourite scary movies. I decided to go with three, as it is a nice simple number. Which was hard for me to get a short list, as I have seen a lot of movies from the sixties up to the present day. I have seen different types, hopefully you’ll enjoy my list and my reasoning for enjoying them.

3. Cabin in The Woods

“Five friends go for a break at a remote cabin, where they get more than they bargained for, discovering the truth behind the cabin in the woods.”

The reason I love this movie is simple, it provokes the idea of the horror genre. With it constantly taking the piss at horror movie tropes and explain why it needs to be so. I love the idea of why horror movie happen, its all being controlled my someone else. Of course, like all good horror movies it has a good load of blood gore and jump scares. However, it does suffer from a few ‘How are you alive’ movements. Such as things going into the back, and people reappearing from nowhere.

Personally, I love the end, and with the ending we’re all fucked, so that’s it got something going for it. Which is a shame because I feel like this could have done with a sequel, but we could do one where we do one of the more successful attempts. As there are so many ways for people to be killed and it would have been interesting to see some of those set ups. Or even better seeing how the Japanese team fucked up their sacrifice.

If you are a horror fan who like a bit of tongue and cheek with their movies, I think you like this one. It’s not super violent as it did get rated a 15 here so it hasn’t got the real high gore factor, but it’s a nice movie for those who have seen a few horror movies, and what to see how and why this happens.

2. Don’t Breathe

“Hoping to walk away with a massive fortune, a trio of thieves break into the house of a blind man who isn't as helpless as he seems.”

This movie has a couple nice twist that is just is a delight for me to watch. It does play on one the fears I’ve had a for a very long time, and I think a lot of people have, being in complete darkness. As we have a whole scene in night vision, and we care see the fear on the characters face. Also, I like the fact this movie is mainly contained to one place, and who knew there are so many scary things we could do in a house.

I overall like this movie, because we are wanting the thieves to get out, and even though they are kind shitty little assholes, we still want them to escape. I feel as an audience we should feel sorry for the blind mind being robbed, but towards the end you defiantly don’t want this man to live, but he totally does.

For this one there are few bits of gore, but mainly here it is fear and intense that gives this movie is driving power. How do you get out of a house with a blind man in the dark, while he’s shooting off guns and swinging weapons? It defiantly builds on the suspense and makes you want to know what happens next. Apparently, it is getting a sequel next year, who knew.

1. 28 Days Later

“Four weeks after a mysterious, incurable virus spreads throughout the UK, a handful of survivors try to find sanctuary.”

When it came to my number one, there was some confusion within in which would be number one. Which is dumb, as in my top ten or top twenty favourite movies, this is the only horror movie on the list, so why shouldn’t it be automatically be number one. Also, this the only on my list I have re-watched recently, as you know it has a similar theme to what we’ve been dealing with this year.

I like this movie, mainly because it is set in my hometown and country. I also like the film goes creepy, then scary then hopeful then its all shot to shit. I do enjoy it has an alternate ending, which unlike most people I don’t prefer, because it is far too sad. I do like the violence in this movie as in some places it is necessary for survival and some it’s just plan funny. The fact the enemy is mainly human also adds to fear. It’s just a shame zombies have turned up everywhere, but at least these are a unique kind of zombies.

For this one I feel a lot of people wouldn’t like it if they are not a fan or gore. Many might also not like as it is too close to what is going on right now. However, it is good a giving us drama as to what life could be like if an infection hit England. Also, I should mention the super mark scene is so unrealistic, as we know now what would really happens with were the world starts going to shit.

There you have there are my top three scary movies, which aren’t too scary for me, but might be a bit scary for a few other people. I would also like to give an honourable mention to, Scream 2. I feel this was the first movie I remember watching and no having nightmares about.

As for this year I have five movies queued up, which I will be watching this Halloween. I wonder if any of those could change my top three. Keep an idea of my socials to see if any does. I might even do a in depth review about the worst or the best of the movies I am going to watch. However, I haven’t decided. Keep it here as Re-Rewind movies.

Cut!
