Top 5 PS4
The PlayStation 4 the latest version of one of the bestselling video game consoles of all time. As this console is slowly beginning its decent to end of its life, I want to take a make a moment and give this console some love. I would like to do so as for as long as I’ve had it, I haven’t played many of the amazing titles within its library. With that in mind it should make today’s task quite easy and simple. I will be listing my top five PlayStation 4 games I have completed story modes.
I do want to say there are a lot of great games I do own and still haven’t got around to playing just yet. Such as, God of Ward, Horizon Zero Dawn, Little Big Planet 3 and Detroit Becoming Human. When I finally gotten around to playing them, I might give this list a second glance and see if any of them can crack the top five.
FIVE: HEAVY RAIN
I am starting off my list with an enhanced port of a PS3 game. As I didn’t get around to playing it the first time around, I was smart enough to pick up the port. I decided to play this to see what Quantic Dream game plays like before the release of Detroit Becoming Human.
What I like about this game is it does have an emergence feeling to it. When you are playing it, you feel like you are control the characters every move, and what you do matters. As you can have characters die or arrested which may hinder you later in the game. However, as one this big selling points is it is your choice, and they do have immediate consequences. Which I did feel when I re-played a section because I had messed up.
Of course, this game wasn’t perfect. As nice as the models looked there was some issues with a couple of the player choice animations. While also there are some story and character issues that don’t really get resolved or make sense as to why they happen. Some of the games sequence control pressings are a little jarring. Overall, I did enjoy the story and most of the game play.
FOUR: RATCHET & CLANK
This was a reboot of the series, for some reason but it was good. It also had a movie tied in with it, but I don’t think many people saw it. The game I really enjoyed. I forgot when the last time was, I played a game that was so colourful and simplistic gameplay which wasn’t a Mario game. I enjoyed jumping, shoot, puzzle solving, and treasure hunting thought out this game.
Even though the game isn’t too long, I did enjoy the ride I was on, and found myself completing all mission on all planets before moving on. I also enjoyed the switching up of the game playing, with playing as Ratchet or just Clank allowing you to see what each character brings to the table. While also have dog fights and hover boarding racing. It was just fun to enjoy.
Other than the game being a collectathon and rather short there aren’t many negatives I have towards this game. The only thing which didn’t help in its favour is that we never got sequel to this game on the PS4 with the next game jumping over to the PS5. Which is a shame because after I was done, I honesty felt this was fun I and wish I could have more. Well I can, I’ll just have to wait for the next PlayStation console.
THREE: CRASH BANDICOOT N’SANE TRILOGY
When I thought of this list there was no way I was excluding this title from it. I do count it as exclusive title, as it was for a while. I was always going to count it as this was a game, I got day one, and I don’t do it much anymore. I know a lot would say it’s on here for the nostalgic value, and to a degree it’s correct. However, it on the list because I enjoyed the game.
As I was a massive fan of all three games as child, and have played through the games as adult, I can say the remake is definitely the same-ish experience. I say this because, the game play is still fun, all the levels from all the games are there. Some levels are still quite difficult, and at no point I was thinking to myself I am playing the same game again. It has new animations, dynamic lighting effects, and new sound. It’s one of those remakes I enjoy because its similar to the original, but not exactly the same. Since in crash 1 it took away the password saves, which maybe if they left in might have had an old school vibe to it.
When playing this game, I enjoy and enjoyed it as it’s a game of platforming madness we used to have back in the nighties. It’s a great game for anyone who grew up with the original, or anyone who never played it back on the PSX. Of course, the game isn’t perfect, but it’s one those games where I can appreciate both the original and remake, and not think the original is better.
TWO: UNCHARTED 4 A THEIF’S END
Is it the last in the uncharted series? Who knows maybe, but I feel a lot of people would like to say no. However, if we look at Naughty Dogs last two franchises Crash and Jak, they got four games before they were switched to different developers. If this is Drake’s last adventure, I was very pleased with the experience.
Having played all the other Uncharted game this wasn’t a massive departure for the series. It was all the same, but higher resolution and a couple of game play changes. These changes were welcome, like the grappling hook, and enemy combat. However, the constant buddy thing was kind of annoying, but not a game breaker. While the game wanted you do more stealth all around rather than shooting.
As a game that is meant to finish off a current character arch, I feel like this the game did well. The story animations were all top notch. I enjoyed the game a lot and wish I had played it a little earlier in the console life, but it was worth a wait. Definitely a series I would recommend to anyone who likes the action shooter genre.
ONE: SPIDER-MAN
When I was thinking what game was going to take the top spot, I was unsure until I thought about it. What game got me back into gaming last year, what game did I play and didn't rush through the story? Which game did buy DLC for? Spider-Man that’s who.
Like many other Spider-Man games in more recent years there has been a constant in all of them, web swinging. However, with this one it really adds the speed and ease you would expect if you were doing it yourself. While also the ease at which you can pull off combo to take down enemies is just great. Also, if you’re huge Spider-Man fan you’ll get to see many different well know villains beautifully modelled. Not to mention the story, the control of different characters, changes in character histories and much more.
I like that this game was self-contained and a filled with a ton of things to do. However, I think most people have said web swinging is by far one of their favourite things to do. As for the ending it did set up nicely the next game in the series which is a serious contender for a day one purchase. I feel fans of Spider-Man and or good games would enjoy this. I feel it makes me sad as a comic book and video game fan as to why only Spider-Man and Batman are the ones who only the decent video game treatment.
There you have my top five PlayStation 4 games. Was yours on my list? If I wasn’t leave me a comment below or tweet me what yours are. Most importantly, as to why it is, I’d love to know. Bonus fact I have piece of music from each of these games in my gaming playlist.
