My Collection

Paradise will be a kind of library. — Jorge Luis Borges

This is what I think when I look at my gaming library. Roughly five hundred games and I can think of no better way of spending my money. My gaming library is one of my greatest achievements as gamer. I see it more than a collection, I see it as my history in gaming. When I look at the tiles in my collected, I think back to the birthday, Christmas and special occasion gifts I had gotten. While also looking back at the games I poured countless hours into, or the times I had great fun with my friends.

Not every game in here is a gem though, some are really an experience in patience, taste and better judgement. Doesn’t mean I regret any of it, just means I have a few things that will just sit on shelves. I do know I own quite a few gems though, from the nighties to present day. Which I could say I have played all to completion, but more games more problems.

I like the diversity of the titles I have in library, from FPS to RPG there really is a game for everyone in here. Many I have just had to have, while many I have because I have enjoyed paying one time or another. Wither it be from a demo, borrowing from a friend, or genuine curiosity. It does surprises me some the games I own, and how I own two of some.

Whenever I can look thought my collection, I do see gaps, and I don’t know much I want to fill them. If I could get my hands on a Mario Kart Double Dash, that would be nice. If I could get my hands a on decent Saga Saturn It would complete my Sega home console section.

The question I ask myself is, when will I stop? I mean when is too much too much? If I were going by space, I’ve already run out of that. I feel on a lot of the sections I have gotten to a place where I have filled out enough of what I want. When I searched eBay for the exact replica of the Nintendo 64, I had, and getting all the games I had played on it. To me it feels like a complete collection, but if I were to really look at it there are still things some people might think is missing.

As curator of my own library, it is up to me what goes in it. I know some people might consider themselves as gaming experts and dictate what is a must have for a certain console, or generation. However, if it is something I don’t want, or too much out of my price range then I wont.

Some might even ask am I planning to sell? Right now, I have no intention of giving it up, or giving it away. This something I have worked at making great for such a long time, if I was to get rid of anything it would be like giving away a part of me. I like having it around, it just shows people something I am passionate about. Which I know many people will not understand, but I’m not worried.

Therefore, I will take physical over digital so long as I can. Not that I hoard a bunch of games, so I can have a physical library I can walk up to and take anything off a shelf at a moment’s notice. While also allowing others to share in my wealth and create new memories on original hardware.

The reason why my gaming library is my biggest collection, is gaming is a part of me. No matter how many times I have tried to give it up, it never really leaves me. Gaming is in my blood, and wither it be collecting, playing, or researching. Gaming is FabEs.
